Its particular but simple geometry produces a highly turbulent mixing between a gas and liquid leading to the generation of a spray of extremely fine droplets. Basically, the nozzle consists of capillary tubing aligned with an orifice placed in front of and at a certain distance of its tip. The liquid is supplied through the capillary tubing and a pressurized gas surrounding its tip generates a spray that goes out through the exit orifice. Air-water nozzle is able to generate a very fine spray from a liquid due to the energy supplied by a pressurized gas.
The droplet size (mass median diameter) depends of geometrical parameters (mainly the orifice diameter), the properties of the fluids (mainly the liquid properties) and the working conditions (liquid flow rate and gas pressure drop through the orifice). Many materials have been used for both the capillary tubing and the orifice, including metals (stainless steel, brass, aluminum and platinum) and polymers (PEEK, PFA, ABS).
Since our nozzles are based on a purely mechanical technology, every material can be used for the manufacturing of their parts, as far as they are chemically compatible with the fluids that will be atomized.
